ASUU Approves Admission Screening in Varsities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) body has disclosed that the union has agreed and is satisfied with the ongoing admission screening process in some universities across the country.

The agreement was made known by the National President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, on Friday in Lagos while speaking with the News Agency in Lagos.

According to him, ASUU want to let the people to know that so far the union is satisfied with the screening procedure.
"As a matter of fact, it is through the reports reaching us and from our observations on various institutions, that we know the universities are on the right track.

“You see, no dictation from outside the universities can stop the institutions’ from doing this screening. It is part of the procedures spelt out by the Senate of the various universities for admission of candidates.
“Government can only provide guidelines such as quota for the academically less-advantaged areas, but the issue of merit is strictly for the universities to determine.’’

However, he emphasized on the need for the institutions to be focused in ensuring only qualified candidates are given admission.
