About 73% of UTME Candidates Won't Be Offered Admission - NUC Reveals

Report reaching jerryukandu.blogspot.com says the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, has revealed that 1.1 million candidates who wrote the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) 2016/2017 UTME exams, will not be admitted this year.

According to greenews.ng, Okojie, disclosed this in Abuja while handing over the Certificate of Recognition for the new Edo State University, Iyanmo to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, soliciting for more universities in Nigeria.
He said that the new universities were needed to boost access to higher education while making sure that quality was not compromised.

According to the NUC scribe, the carrying capacity of the whole Nigerian universities is currently at 400,000. He admitted that the number of candidates that sits for JAMB UTME every year are more than the available spaces in Nigerian universities.
It will be recalled that over 1.5 million candidates sat for the 2016/2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). over the Certificate of Recognition for the new Edo State University, Iyanmo to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, solicited for more universities in Nigeria.
