Due to the ongoing mass retrenchment of workers in the banking sector, the federal government has issued a strong warning to commercial banks in the country against violating labour laws.
This was made known in a meeting with stakeholders by Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who gave the warning during a meeting stressing on labour issues emanating from the recent retirement of workers in the banking sector.
According to the minister, the Federal Government would not tolerate flagrant disobedience of labour laws by any financial institution operating in the country, reminding the representatives representatives of the banks that the country was a signatory to the International Labour Organisation’s Conventions, which were against unfair labour practices.
