John Okafor, a 35 year old man has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) after being caught with N48 million which was concealed inside a carton.
NDLEA’s Head of Public Affairs, Mitchel Ofoyeju, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that Okafor was nabbed on board a commercial bus at Abaji, Abuja by operatives of the agency attached to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command. He added that the suspect claimed that the money belonged to a Bureau de Change.
The suspect, John Okafor was on board a commercial bus from Onitsha in Anambra State when N48million was found in a brown carton concealed in a sack in his possession. He also had on him eighty-six thousand, five hundred CFA Franc. He claimed that the money belonged to a Bureau de Change,” Ofoyeju said.
The suspect, in his confessional statement, said that he was on assignment for a Bureau de Change based in Anambra State.
“I work for a Bureau de Change in Onitsha. I was asked to purchase dollars at the foreign exchange market in Abuja with the money. When we got to Abaji, our vehicle was searched and the money was found. That is all I know about it,” Okafor said.
